105th Anniversary Delaware River Canoe Trip
of the Mohawk Canoe Club

August 8 - 17, 2008

The Mohawk Canoe Club will be celebrating its 105th anniversary with a canoe and kayak trip on The Silent, Silver Trail, the enjoyable, serene and always beautiful Delaware River.

In 1905, three years after the founding of the Mohawk Canoe Club, the club conducted an expedition of the Delaware River from Hancock, New York to Trenton, New Jersey, the home of the club. MCC published a book for its 100th Anniversary in 2003, CANOEING WITH MOHAWK: The first hundred years. While conducting research for the book a trip log was discovered from the 1905 trip which included a poem by Frederick R. Brace, Jr. entitled The Silent Silver Trail, thus the theme of the 105th anniversary trip will be “The Silent Silver Trail”.

The trip will cover the majority of the Upper Delaware River between Hancock, NY and the Delaware Water Gap. The group will be camping at four different base camps and daily shuttles will be run between the respective base camps and put-ins/take-outs. Each individual will be responsible to transport their camping gear and boat between camp sites and the put-in and take-out each day, as well as to bring and prepare their own food.

The itinerary offers good paddling experiences yet allows plenty of time for relaxation and good fellowship. The dates are Friday, August 8 – Sunday, August 17. Please join us!
